What’s the Story with “INSIDE THE STORY “?
Feb 2nd, 2009 by LA Brain Terrain
Forgive me if this is old news to you but I’ve noticed a new “salon” in town. Called Inside the Story, this organization offers evenings with experts in the media, arts and culture in exchange for a fee.
It’s the inverse of ALOUD LA, apparently. You pay $ to attend an intimate gathering led by a well known figure in the field of art, music or culture.
So far organizers, who seem affiliated with sponsor Portrait of a Bookstore in Encino, have recruited the cultural masthead of the L.A. Times Calendar section as well as a smattering of PHDs from the local universities.
Book editor David Ulin led a discussion of his picks for best books of 2008 on Jan 30, 2009.
It’s nice to see intellectuals and underemployed critics finding ways to ignite the experiential economy. These programs aren’t cheap: multi-week play or music appreciation classes are in the $200 range. Most classes go for $30-$50.
Wow, my own LA Brain Terrain museum outings are a bargain at $2.50 and I provide written recaps.
