ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive has an amazing piece of advertising history on their site this week, samples of UPA’s seminal ads for Piel’s beer featuring the characters Bert and Harry Piels.

Boy, this take me back. Not to 1955 during the creation of the spots, but, rather to a time when I studied story board design with Faith Hubley, John’s widow. I also inventoried a set of papers that they gave my college. I remember seeing all the tear sheets and character sketches. So sad.
